High-Performance Polyurea Coating for Dog Kennels

Photograph from the High-Performance Polyurea Coating for Dog Kennels project delivered by UCL Ltd

Introduction

A newly constructed dog kennel facility required a durable, hygienic protective coating across more than 20 kennels, including internal areas and external run access. The coating needed to resist animal waste, harsh cleaning chemicals, and high-temperature cleaning equipment whilst providing a surface that is straightforward to clean and maintain.

Our Solution

Concrete surfaces were pre-prepared with a resin screed layer, ground down to achieve the correct substrate profile for a penetrating primer. UCL Ltd then spray-applied a 2mm layer of POLYSHIELD HT-100 F UB — a fast-setting, high-performance pure polyurea elastomer — to kennel floors, walls, and corridor floors throughout the facility. Application used a cross-hatch spray method with 20mm corner fillet detailing, creating a continuous, monolithic coating from wall to floor with no joints or gaps. The finished grey coating presents a clean semi-gloss appearance. The system provides proven resistance to chemical exposure, including animal waste and aggressive cleaning agents, alongside thermal resistance to steam and specialist cleaning equipment.

Key Benefits

  • 2mm pure polyurea system applied across 20+ kennels, walls, and corridors
  • Monolithic, joint-free finish achieved via cross-hatch application and 20mm coved fillets
  • Resistant to animal waste, biocidal cleaning chemicals, and high-temperature steam cleaning
  • Fast-setting system minimised downtime during installation
  • Semi-gloss finish supports rapid daily cleaning and ongoing hygiene maintenance
  • Single continuous coating eliminates potential ingress points for bacteria or moisture

Conclusion

The completed POLYSHIELD HT-100 F UB installation delivered a hygienic, chemically resistant environment suited to the demands of a working kennel facility. UCL Ltd has the technical capability to specify and apply high-performance polyurea systems across agricultural, commercial, and specialist animal care environments.
